- The most comprehensive index for material on the modern languages, literature, linguistics, and folklore, providing access to journal articles, books, conference proceedings and dissertations.

- This site makes available classic works of literature, nonfiction, and reference. Originally based at Columbia University, Bartleby is now a commercial site, however the titles are available free of charge.

- The Complete Works of William Shakespeare
- The texts of Shakespeare's works. Includes a keyword index to the works and other miscellaneous Shakespearean information. Created and maintained at MIT by Jeremy Hylton.
- The Electronic Beowulf
- The Electronic Beowulf Project, developed by The British Library and U.S. scholars Kevin Kiernan and Paul Szarmach, has assembled a huge database of digital images of the Beowulf manuscript and related manuscripts and printed texts.
- English Language Resources: The Electronic Text Center
- A variety of electronic texts and illustrations made available over the Internet from the Electronic Text Center at the University of Virginia.
- The English Server
- "The Server publishes texts in the arts and humanities, broadly defined. Our collections include art, architecture, drama, fiction, poetry, history, political theory, cultural studies, philosophy, women's studies and music. We publish two journals (Bad Subjects and Cultronix), and host public web pages for local projects like the Pittsburgh Community Literacy Center." A cooperative run by students, faculty and staff in the English Department at Carnegie Mellon University.

- Online Literary Criticism Collection: Internet Public Library
- "The IPL Online Literary Criticism Collection contains 1043 critical and biographical websites about authors and their works that can be browsed by author, by title, or by literary period."
- Project Gutenberg
- A massive collection of public domain texts, from the Declaration of Independence to Alice in Wonderland.
- Romantic Circles
- This website is "devoted to the study of Lord Byron, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Keats, their contemporaries and historical contexts." A nicely-constructed site with a wide range of links.
- Victorian Women Writers Project
- Located at Indiana University, this site makes available texts of literary works by British women of the late 19th century.
- Voice of the Shuttle
- This "Web Page for Humanities Research" contains an amazingly comprehensive collection of links. Created by Alan Liu, professor in the English Dept. at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

- Internet Poetry Archive
- This site contains selected poems from contemporary poets. Includes sound files of the poets reading their poems. Sponsored by the University of North Carolina Press and the North Carolina Arts Council.
- Poem Finder
- "Poem Finder provides coverage of all well-known anthologized poems, in-depth coverage and complete works of many poets, and the latest poetry in periodicals such as The New Yorker, Sulfur, TriQuarterly and more." This resources indexes over 600,000 poems, and provides the full text for over 50,000 of those works.
